Set in the enchanting backdrop of Germany in the early 1900s, "Nutcracked" is a heartwarming sequel to the well-known and well-loved classic ballet, The Nutcracker. Clara, now an adult, faces the strains of a turbulent marriage with her husband Carl and the constant bickering of their 13-year-old twins, Candy and Cocoa. The Christmas spirit seems dim at their holiday party until Uncle Fritz presents Candy with a ballerina doll, which she disdainfully rejects, and Cocoa with a soldier toy, accepts with reluctance.

As the night unfolds, something stirs and Candy is whisked away to her Uncle Fritz's mysterious toy shop, filled with living, speaking toys each grappling with their own dilemmas. Unbeknownst to the children, a sinister character lurks, plotting to sow discord among the toys and seize control of the shop.

When Cocoa unexpectedly joins her in this fantastical adventure, the twins learn to navigate their sibling rivalry and unite to thwart the villain's evil plans. As they strive to save the toy shop and its inhabitants, Candy and Cocoa discover the power of teamwork, finding humility and forgiveness.

"Nutcracked" is a festive production filled with fun, new characters and good lessons for the holiday season.

Echo Theatre welcomes participants of all ages, though the age requirements for each role vary based on the script's needs. For our Fall 2024 semester, we recommend that students aged 8 and older audition for acting roles, and those aged 12 and older apply for technical positions.
